Ecuador

This little piggy went to market...

We had lunch in this market (and ate this pig) - the lady here charged me her special Tourist price for a typical dish, but I took the photo for free (they usually want money.)

This is the waterfall that I had my bullfight to get to. Just doesn't seem worth it, does it?

Ulf the Elf

Here's Ulf, looking very festive on December 26, at the Equatorial Monument. In theory he's got one foot in the northern hemisphere and one foot in the south, but these days someone checked the location of the equator with a GPS unit and they found out that the yellow line should run through someone's back yard about 100 meters away. Of course, that guy opened up a small competing attraction...

Hey big boy...

Here's Ulf and Anke, stopped at a road block on New Year's Eve. There were literally hundreds of these on the way back to Quito, and about half of the boys were in drag, and the rest had a variety of costumes.

Diga queso.

This was one of about a dozen of group photos we took in front of Hostal DejaVu... in motorcycle gear, in regular clothes, on the bikes... they really liked to take pictures.

This is the view of Coatapaxi while we were still about 20 kilometers away.

Later that day, after we'd gotten up to the parking lot, at 4600 meters (the top is 6000, or 20,000 feet). Those are clouds of water, not smoke, and they start every day around 8am, so people who want to climb to the caldera start hiking with their guides from the refuge at 4800 meters at 1am.

Weird alpine cacti that we saw in the mountains on the way down to Cuenca.
